Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Samantarai

Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Samantarai, popularly known as the Father of Indian Climate Congress, is a distinguished academician, researcher, environmental thinker, and scientific leader in India. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and has made remarkable contributions in the fields of soil and water conservation engineering, water management, ecology, environment, and climate change.
He served Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar for more than thirty years in several prestigious positions including Professor of Agricultural Engineering, Chief Scientist, Associate Director of Research, and Dean of Students’ Welfare. Through his academic leadership and scientific dedication, he significantly contributed to agricultural engineering education and environmental research in India.
Prof. Samantarai has published more than 150 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He has also written over 200 popular science articles in Odia newspapers and magazines to spread awareness among the general public regarding climate change, environmental sustainability, and scientific thinking. In addition, he is the author of 18 books covering scientific, environmental, and educational subjects.
He actively participated in more than 500 national and international conferences, seminars, and scientific events across different engineering and environmental disciplines. As Chairman of various national organizing committees, he successfully conducted 14 national seminars focused on ecology, environment, climate change, and sustainable development.
Prof. Samantarai also served as Director Awards of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers during 2015–2017. He is presently the Chief Editor of the journal “Climate Change and World Peace”, where he continues to encourage scientific dialogue and global awareness on environmental challenges and climate resilience.
